2nd October 2010 (League)
Roman Rangers Greens 3 Newport Pagnell Town Tigers 2
Team (Scorers): Alex S, James, Jacob, Alastair, Bradley (1), Alex M, Ben J-H (1), Kai, Sam, Ben L, Alfie (1), Jamie G
Another really tight game against Newport, but this time the Greens earned themselves a narrow victory. Alfie put the Greens in front midway through the first half, following up well after good work down the left by Jamie G. The visitors played the better foootball in the first half but missed a number of chances, with the Greens midfield pushing forward too far and not doing enough work to protect the defence. The game became stretched in the second half, and this made for an entertaining last quarter. Newport equalised with 15 minutes left, only for Bradley to score an excellent goal from the edge of the box, letting fly with a speculative shot when he realised that he had no teammates up in support. Back came Newport to square things up at 2-2, but with five minutes left Ben J-H rounded off an excellent second half by scoring the winner.
The result was harsh on the visitors, who deserved something from this game. But close matches are usually decided by whoever makes best use of their chances, and the Greens were a bit lucky today that Newport were unable to end some excellent passing moves with more clinical finishing. That said, the Greens did improve in the second half and created more pressure the longer the game went on. Alex M and Ben J-H were dominant in midfield in the last 20 minutes, and Bradley had a very good second half. A big pat on the back too for Jacob, who had a fantastic game in defence. The Greens now have a week off before their next league game, a tough assignment away to Newton Longville.
16th October 2010 (League)
Newton Longville Blues 2 Roman Rangers Greens 1
Team (Scorers): Alex S, James, Jacob, Alastair, Bradley, Alex M, Ben J-H, Kai, Sam, Ben L, Alfie, Jamie G, Maika
A tough assignment for the Greens against a strong, experienced side. The Greens took the lead when Bradley's corner was deflected in for an own goal, but either side of that the home team had created chance after chance, and although they won the game with two goals, they could have won by many more. A good learning experience for the Greens, though, and there will be work to do at training on closing down players in attacking positions. Good games for Alex M, Bradley and Jacob, but star man today was Alex S in goal for an outstanding performance to keep his team in the game.
